Write to Thrive: The WRITE Way to Reach Your Goals

Writing is a great way to clear your head, to process emotions, to transfer energy and to plan!  It helps foster commitment and serves as a great record to refer back to.

One of the great benefits to writing is that you can free flow whatever is on your mind and go back and organize it later.  Writing can be about a specific topic or for a specific purpose, or it can be a brain dump of ideas and thoughts.

Here are some different types of writing that can help you to organize your thoughts and life:

  1. Start a gratitude journal and every morning and/or every night write down 3 things you are thankful for. (I highly recommend The Five minute journal, that’s what started me with my daily gratitude practice.)

  2. Keep a notebook by your bed so if you are falling asleep or wake up in the middle of the night and have ideas or thoughts you don’t want to lose or can’t stop from cycling through your mind, you can brain dump them onto paper and fall peacefully asleep knowing they are captured and ready to be dealt with the next day.

  3. Journaling is a great way to practice creative writing. There are a ton of journaling prompts that you can find on Pinterest or Google. Journaling for only 15 minutes a day three to five times a week can improve both your physical and mental health!

  4. Keeping a food log is one of the best ways to keep yourself on track nutritionally. This practice will help you identify habits you’ve developed with what you eat and drink so you can address patterns to better align with your health goals.

  5. Writing daily affirmations is a wonderful way to reinforce positive thinking and self-confidence.

  6. A good old fashioned to do list is always a great way to capture tasks and projects and prioritize them. You can use the notes section of your phone or pen and paper!

Writing has incredible health benefits too!  Stress reduction, memory improvement, goal achievement, improving communication skills and regulating emotions are just a few.

The bottom line is - when in doubt, write!
